Competitor Requirements for the Delaware State Leadership & Skills Conference (SLSC)

To ensure fairness, professionalism, and alignment with national standards, all competitors and alternates participating in the Delaware State Leadership & Skills Conference must complete the requirements below. These expectations mirror those of the National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) and are essential to your success as a SkillsUSA competitor.

Resume Requirement (Required for ALL Competitors)

All competitors and alternates are required to upload a one-page professional resume by the published deadline.

Your resume should reflect:

  • Your education and technical training

  • Relevant skills and certifications

  • Work-based learning, leadership, or community service experiences

⚠️ Important:
Failure to upload a resume by the stated deadline will result in a point deduction from your overall competition score.

This requirement is identical at both the Delaware SLSC and the National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC). Learning how to prepare and submit a professional resume is a critical employability skill emphasized by SkillsUSA.

SkillsUSA Professional Development Test (Required for ALL Competitors)

All competitors and alternates must complete the online SkillsUSA Professional Development Test.

This assessment measures knowledge of:

  • Workplace professionalism

  • Employability skills

  • The SkillsUSA Framework and Essential Elements

How it is used:

  • The SkillsUSA Professional Development Test is 25 points. It is also used as a tiebreaker, if needed.

Completion of this test ensures every competitor is prepared not just technically, but professionally. Note: Those who qualify for the National Leadership & Skills Conference will complete this requirement a second time, but for their national competition score.

Online Content Knowledge Tests (Required for MOST Competitions)

Most occupationally related competitions also require an Online Content Knowledge Test.

Key details:

  • At the Delaware SLSC, the Content Knowledge Test accounts for no more than 10% of a competitor’s total score.

  • These tests are developed by national SkillsUSA industry partners and are aligned to national Technical Standards.

Competitors should log into their Pathful account to:

  • Review the national Technical Standards for their competition

  • Prepare for the aligned Content Knowledge Test

Competitions that DO NOT require an Online Content Knowledge Test:

  • All Leadership Events (except for Quiz Bowl)
  • Barbering
  • Building Maintenance
  • Career Choice Commentary & Display
  • Cake Decorating
  • Knife Skills

Final Reminder for Competitors

Completing these requirements on time is part of being a prepared, professional SkillsUSA competitor. Deadlines matter, attention to detail matters, and these expectations reflect the real-world standards you’ll encounter beyond the competition floor.

👉 Start early, review your standards, and take ownership of your preparation.
